Like many people, we have a bird
feeder in our yard. It is fun to
watch all the different birds that
come and visit and all their different
characteristics.
But
the bird that has become the favourite
in our yard is the Pale-headed
Rosella. He doesn’t come by often and
more often than not he is by himself.
But his behaviour around the bird
feeder is such that even my girls
comment on it. In fact, it is a real
joy to see him come to the yard and we
all go excitedly to the window to
watch him when he visits.
If another bird
happens to be on the bird feeder, the
Rosella will just quietly sit on some
other branch of the tree waiting
patiently for the other bird to have
his fill. I have even seen him wait
in a tree some distance away from the
feeder, just quietly watching and
waiting for it to be his turn. He
never chases, he never squabbles, he
never picks on the other birds, and he
is never territorial. And it for this
reason that the Pale-headed Rosella is
referred to in our house, as “The
Patient Bird” – a bird willing to
share with others and take turns.
Many people have
the hobby of bird-watching and equally
many people are Christian-watchers.
What would people notice about you if
they watched your behaviour? The
Bible makes it very clear what others
should be seeing our lives in
Galatians.
But the fruit of
the spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control. Galatians 5:22-23 NIV
Always make sure that it is these
characteristics that cause people to
notice you when you are around!
